Macks' Birth

Okay so I know that I am three months behind on this post but I am writing it, and I think that is all that counts!!!
(Warning; some things on this post may not be suitable for little eyes, or big eyes who can't handle all of the details of a babies birth)

I guess I should probably start from the beginning of the labor process.

Sunday April 29, 2012 I wake up for church already not feeling good. I was having a little bit of pain in my upper stomach by my ribs, so I tell John and he asks if I have gas? I tell him how am I supposed to know if I have gas or not. LOL Anyways, we get ready for church and head over. John has to be there a half an hour early so that he can help his Teachers set up the sacrament. So we walk in and John sits me in our normal spot. While he is helping the boys I am preparing my lesson. (yeah I know I totally should have prepared long before Sunday morning, but that didn't happen so I was doing it then. Don't judge) While I was working on my lesson my stomach kept hurting worse and worse I would push on the spot it hurt at and it would help so the first part of sacrament meeting I sat there holding my stomach. Until it started hurting from the middle of my stomach then off to the side and down to my hip. I was kinda worried that something might be wrong. John kept asking me if I was okay and if we needed to leave. But me being stubborn and knowing that John doesn't like leaving church kept telling him No, i am fine. (that was definitely a lie) So once sacrament meeting was over John decided to stop believing me that I was okay. We decided to head home and see if laying down resting helped any. Well after about a half hour I was still feeling horrible so John called the hospital and asked what we should do. They told him to bring me in to get monitored and run some tests. They were worried about possible pre-eclampsia or something like that. So we head to the hospital not thinking that we would be there very long, so not eating lunch or anything. We get there and they start trying to figure out what was going on. they take a urine sample and some blood to test. While we are waiting a nurse comes in to ask questions (for my chart I am guessing) But she was not very nice. Well that is what I thought anyways. She would ask questions and I would answer them like a pregnant lady who is in pain and not in the mood to answer questions so I just would say yes or no and on ones I didn't know I would say I don't know and she just looks at me like I am stupid or something. I was getting kinda frustrated because at this point it was like 3 or 4 and I hadn't eaten since 9. So I was starving and grumpy. Anyways, so we got lucky that our Dr was there already checking on another patient, so he stopped by and checked to see if he could figure anything out and to check my progress. Well he thought maybe it was just really bad gas so he gave me some medicine to see if that helped. (It definitely didn't) He said that Macks was ready to come out. But I still hadn't progressed any since my last appointment a week ago. So he said we would wait to see what the blood work had to say and go from there. Well the blood work took FOREVER to get back. At like 5 or 6 the nurse came in and said that the blood work came back and there were no indications of pre-eclampsia. She said that she talked to my Dr and he said that we could stay at the hospital and i could get induced in the morning, or we could go home and wait for Macks to come on her own. Well we decided to take a minute and decide as a family what would be best for us. Well we said a prayer and thought about it for a little while. John's feelings were that no matter what we decided it would all be the same. And my feelings were, I want to get this child out of me. LOL So we decided to stay at the Hospital that night. We let our families know what was going on. and let them know that we would let them know how things were going and when she was born. But we decided that after she was born we didn't want any visitors so that we could spend Macks' first day together just the three of us! Okay going on, since by this time it was 6:30 pm and I hadn't eaten since 9 we ordered some food from the food service place and it tasted so good!!!! LOL

After eating and relaxing for a little bit my parents came by and said hello and my dad and John gave me a priesthood blessing. After that we talked for a little bit then John and I started watching some movies. At like 8 we got a new nurse for the night and it happened to be a girl that grew up down the street from my parents and was friends with my brother Ryan. She asked if it would be weird and I was like I don't care who my nurse is as long as you are patient with my indecisiveness LOL So she came to give me a pill that would help soften my cervix so by time they went to induce me in the morning my body would be ready.
At 9:30 ish she came in to give me a pill to help me get one last good nights sleep!!! I was super excited for this part!!! :)
Monday April 30, 2012 I was so excited to sleep. It was going to be an okay sleep considering the bed was horrible and had no cushioning. and the fact that she had to come in every 2 hours to check my progress and to check the baby. Poor John had it almost as bad as I did. he had to sleep on a little pull out couch that was not very big and didn't look very comfy. Oh the nurses name was Mindy. (typing her name is a lot easier then write the nurse every time I have to talk about her) So Mindy came in at Midnight to check my cervix to see if it was getting softer. so by that time I think she said I was like 70% effaced which was only 10 percent more then what I came in with. So she gave me another pill to soften it some more and let me sleep. and said that she would be back in a couple hours. So I tried to sleep but I just couldn't I was so uncomfortable and the noises from all the machines were driving me nuts. I kept looking over at John and it looked like he was sleeping so good I was kind of upset, or maybe just jealous. :) I think I started falling asleep and then all of a sudden I had this really bad cramp and then I felt a pop, and the cramp went away and I feel this gush of stuff coming out of me. I was thinking great I just peed myself, who does that. So I turn to John and say I think I am leaking or something. he sits up and is like what are you okay? I tell him to get Mindy so he goes out the door and say I think her water just broke. (my room was right across from the nurses desk.) Mindy comes in and checks and says yeah your water broke. She is checking to see where the sac broke  but she cant find a spot anywhere. (we are guessing that it broke around where I was having the pains.) So we get cleaned up and get a new puppy pad to put on the bed so I don't leak everywhere. and says she will be back at 4 to check me again and if I needed anything before then to let her know. Well by 3 my contractions were so bad and I was in so much pain. John was so good trying to help me relax and work on breathing like we learned. but it just was not working and I wanted drugs so bad. So we call Mindy in to let her know that we are ready for the drugs. She said that she had to call the anesthesiologist in so it might be a little bit but we would get it soon. By this time I was 100% effaced and dilated to a 4 or 5. (I cant really remember)
The anesthesiologist got there at 4 and gave me the epidural. I was super scared it was going to hurt so bad from all of the stories I had heard and read that getting it hurt so bad. But I will be honest the contractions were far worse and I even think pulling the tape off after I was done hurt worse. Anyways it started working and I was feeling good. I was able to relax and go to sleep. I guess sometime while I was sleeping Mindy came in and said that the epidural was slowing down my progress so they put me on pitocin I think to get things going again. I am not sure what time that was at probably 5 or 6. I woke up a little bit later I am not sure what time I am guessing 6:30 or so and I was having really weird cramping like I need to have a bowel movement and it just kept getting worse. It wasn't like painful or anything. I just kept thinking to myself that if I could just get up and go to the bathroom I would be able to fall asleep for a few more hours. well at like 6:45 or so a new nurse came in to check on me she asked how I was doing and I told her what was going on. So she decided to check on my progress. Well she checks and next thing I know she say's "OH BOY, DON'T PUSH WHATEVER YOU DO" I'm thinking that is a lot harder than it sounds. (oh John was fast asleep by this time and when this happens he sits up and is like WHAT!!) She continues to tell us that the baby is crowning!! SO she runs in the hall and tells someone to call our Dr. Well he got there by like 7 and we were just sitting there waiting for a contraction and then I would push through it and then we would wait for another one. well by my 3rd contraction the babies heart rate started dropping so the next contraction at 7:20 am  I had to have an episiotomy and she had to be vacuumed out. He said that the Umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck twice and was still super long. (interesting fact: the more your baby moves inside of you the longer the umbilical cord will be. Macks' was huge. He said it was the longest one he had ever seen.) She was breathing fine and was perfect with a ton of dark hair!!! I got to hold her for a minute while they cleaned her off then John went over with them and helped them get her cleaned up and weighed.
She was 6 lbs 2 oz.
She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen!! I was expecting to see a bloody blob with eyes. but she was not even bloody at all just amazing. So we got to spend all day with her relaxing and loving life!!!
Tuesday May 1, 2012: we were able to go home around one and when we got home the house was so clean. My family decided to get the house all clean for us when we got home so that we could relax and not have to worry about it. It was so nice of them I was so grateful that they did this!! then later that night John's family came over and brought pizza so we just relaxed and they all got to spend some good quality time with the newest member of the family!!!

Here are some pictures of Macks, and there will be more to come!
